Gluten Free in Rhodes
I visited Rhodes in Greece at the end of June this year, I would say this was one of the most challenging places I have visited so far. We stayed In the Madison boutique hotel where breakfast was included in the stay. I emailed prior to the visit too ensure they would be able to have breakfast options I could eat and they were very helpful ensuring they would cater for me. It was a family run hotel and they were very helpful and ensured they bought breakfast options such as rolls and cereals and they often made me homemade brownies which were they best brownies I have ever had.
I was walking into restaurants and asking do you have anything gluten free where some actually told me that in Greece they don’t believe in “things like that" so it was extremely difficult to find somewhere sometimes. There was only really one restaurant in Faliraki that offered a gluten free menu, it was called eat Greek. The restaurant was really good as you could get a range of different foods like pastas, burgers and pizzas. There was also a restaurant called Jack Daniels Friends that served the most amazing Jack Daniels ribs that they made to be gluten free if you requested (there was gluten in the sauce).
In Falirkai it was really difficult to find other gluten free options it’s a good thing I like arrabbiata because gluten free penne pasta was about the only gluten free thing restaurants had. We took a trip to Rhodes old town where I was able to try gyros, I have always been desperate to try it. The restaurant was able to put it into a nan bread it was amazing. Overall, it was pretty difficult to eat find places in Greece, in the heat when your starving it can be particularly frustrating, all the places we did eat where lovely they were just hard to come by.
