Gluten Free in Albuferia

 I recently visited Albufeira in Portugal, as in most places it can be very challenging at times to find somewhere suitable to eat, unless you are a big fan of salad, which I am definitely not. We were staying right at the marina which had fewer restaurant choices than in Albufeira town, we often got a 5-minute taxi into Albufeira town or the old town which had much more options available.

 Finding on the go, quick bite to eat options was a problem which normally seems to be the case even in the UK. The easiest meal to find to eat was definitely dinner, I had read some reviews online and we tried a place called senior frogs which offered a gluten free menu of pasta and pizza. We visited the restaurant a few times as the pizza was the best gluten free pizza I have ever tasted. Restaurant Bailote in Albufeira also offered a large gluten free menu, they had gluten free bread which came as a nice surprise even though bread would be considered a basic at a restaurant for most people, it actually has coeliacs excited. The staff in both these places were also very well informed and could answer any questions about cross contamination.

 One of the main excursions in Albufeira is the waterpark. Places like this can be tricky to find something to eat because its mainly just fast food options which are offered, but I managed to get roast chicken and chips which was the safest option of the menu (so I thought). I would definitely recommend to bring your own food in with you as there are no safe food options, we had to leave the waterpark because I was so unwell. Thought I was going to be sick, was lying down on the table doubled over in pain, so we had to leave where we went back to the apartment, and I had a 5 hour nap to sleep it off (not sure if that actually counts as a nap). 

Overall I think there are a few good food places worth visiting in Albuferia and it is not to challenging to find somewhere.

Lucky for me my mum and dad have a villa in Turkey so we have been visiting since I was 4. We stay in a small place called calis inside Fethiye. Before I was celiac I use to order the fajitas and the were amazing I never thought when I was here but I should have just brought my own wraps to have them, its well worth it. We also went to a Chinese called Serkul 2 were I was able to get sweet and sour chicken and fried rice gluten free which was super tasty.  Turkey is quite similar to Greece were it’s a bit more difficult to get gluten free food lucky for me though I do love a meat filled diet and most places do a chicken shish or grilled chicken and things similar that are safe to eat. Gluten Free in Rhodes

I visited Rhodes in Greece at the end of June this year, I would say this was one of the most challenging places I have visited so far. We stayed In the Madison boutique hotel where breakfast was included in the stay. I emailed prior to the visit too ensure they would be able to have breakfast options I could eat and they were very helpful ensuring they would cater for me. It was a family run hotel and they were very helpful and ensured they bought breakfast options such as rolls and cereals and they often made me homemade brownies which were they best brownies I have ever had .  I was walking into restaurants and asking do you have anything gluten free where some actually told me that in Greece they don’t believe in “things like that" so it was extremely difficult to find somewhere sometimes. Gluten Free in Ibiza

When I visited Ibiza in July I can safely say there where a lot less food places tried than the rest of the holidays I have been on it was much more of a liquid based diet consumed over these 7 days. A saving grace was at least the burger king had   gluten free options always useful as a hangover cure or a post club scran, the UK really needs to include the gluten free options on their menus. We went for a full English breakfast everyday maybe at like 4 o’clock when we could be bothered to venture out of the hotel not sure if it still counts as breakfast. The breakfast was outstanding and there was a gluten free breakfast being made with gluten free toast and sausages, full English breakfast was what the doctor ordered to sort me out each day.
